Sustainable Development Mechelen N.V.

The Beherman Group, which has its headquarters in Bornem, has already existed for more than 100 years and has, over that time, primarily distinguished itself in the fields of construction, assembly, import and distribution of freight and passenger vehicles, in Belgium, The Netherlands and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Through this extensive range of activities, the Group has established a durable relationship with 26 automobile brands and maintained this situation in a serene manner. Furthermore, the Group has almost half a million loyal clients.

At this time, the ‘automobile’ business is focussed on the importation and distribution of Mitsubishi cars and Fuso freight vehicles for the Belux, as well as on the sales and maintenance of Saab for the BeNeLux, through a network of more than one hundred dealers and service points.

The Group has always kept its finger on the pulse in terms of market trends and developments and has diversified over the years, resulting in the acquired expertise being complemented by new activities.

For example, a company was set up specialising in software management for car dealers. That company now includes the networks of several large automobile brands among its clients.

The Group has also built up financial services and reinsurance facilities in addition to activities in the residential and industrial property sectors.

It is in this respect that the Beherman Group has entered into a partnership with the experienced Bopro Group to set up the company Sustainable Development Mechelen N.V. (SDM).

In view of the fact that this company intends to conduct responsible business in the property and construction sector, its offices have been set up in Ragheno Park in Mechelen, which belongs to the Beherman Group. SDM offers sustainable development based on sound economic profitability, minimal ecological impact and social responsibility. SDM uses the BREEAM method, the standard benchmark for evaluating the environmental performance of sustainable buildings that has become the most widely used method of assessment worldwide.

SDM obtained an outstanding BREEAM-rating for the project of the new headquarters of the Flemish Red Cross in Flanders, located on the site of Ragheno Park. The building was inaugurated in early June 2015 by the Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel and Maggie De Block, Minister of health and social affairs.
